Eco-Minds Youth Forum 2009 programme
International students attending the Eco-Minds Youth Forum in New Zealand, May 25 to 29, can expect a fascinating and exciting experience.
Te Puia Geyser at Whakarewarewa thermal village in Rotorua, which Eco-Minds Youth Forum delegates will visit on Friday 29th.
Based on the forum theme of Sustainable Energy Systems: Challenges and Opportunities, participants will take part in lectures, workshops, workgroup sessions and site visits to power generation sites.
There will also get to take part in a Maori cultural experience, visit Auckland’s Sky Tower and enjoy a west coast beach tour.
Key components of the Eco-Minds Youth Forum 2009 in New Zealand are:
Mon 25 May, Day 1 – meet and greet, students get to know each other, tour of the Auckland west coast, tree planting, welcome ceremony at the University of Auckland marae.
Tues 26 May, Day 2 – formal opening ceremony, key lectures, start of work programme, dinner at the Hyatt Regency.
Wed 27 May, Day 3 – travel to Huntly to see coal fired power station, then onto Lake Karapiro to visit a hydro-station, before moving to Millennium Hotel in Rotorua, more group work and pool-side dinner.
Thurs 28 May, Day 4 – travel to Taupo to visit the Wairakei geothermal field and Huka falls, more lectures and group work, Maori cultural show in the evening.
Fri 29 May, Day 5 – tour of Whakarewarewa village, including geyers and boiling mud pools, final group work, presentation to judges, closing ceremony at Rotorua museum.
