China selects two students
China has selected two students to take part in the 2009 Eco-Minds Youth Forum in New Zealand.
Xiaozhong Xia (top) and Tian Ya Xiaozhong Xia comes from Zhejiang University in China, where he majored in Entrepreneurial Management.
A keen leader and initiator, he worked with other students to create the Zhejiang Zhi Yuan Chemical Co Ltd. The company promotes the treatment of alkali reduction wastewater with membrane integration techniques. The aim is to get more printing and dyeing factories to use their equipment in order to reduce energy and waste.
The initiative won Xiaozhong and his fellow students a trip to Paris to share their ideas with fellow university students from 12 other countries. In future, Xiaozhong would like to participate in different kinds of activities related to environmental issues.
Tian Ya
Tian Ya is a senior student at Shanghai Jiaotong University, majoring in Environmental Science and Engineering.
He is looking at doing further post-graduate study, including an environmental impact assessment on the university’s Minhang campus.
Tian is fond of participating in various environmental protection activities. As a part-time teacher in his school, he always encourages his students to join different, meaningful activities all around the city every year.
He believes that a combined effort from everyone is required if we are to save energy and to explore new energies. We should therefore focus our attention on publicising and popularising our efforts to society as a whole.
